The Cool Planet Experience applies impressive technology, scenic environments, theatrical lighting and effects, clever visuals and gamification to captivate guests from the moment they receive their interactive wristbands.

The world's first permanent climate change centre, CPE is situated on the stunning grounds of Powerscourt Estate, Co. Wicklow. The project has brought a previously unused building back to life with a serious mission – to educate and inspire visitors about climate change.

We have a looming catastrophe on our hands that could kill millions before the turn of the next century.

Sir Richard Branson

Our design invites visitors to measure their carbon footprint before embarking on a journey of Climate Discovery spread across six unique galleries. Begin by experiencing the Disaster Scenario, learn about the science of Carbon, help save our future city in the Race to 2050, deal with all things food in The F Word Game Show, find yourself immersed in our Forest of Hope and lastly, pledge to change in Brighter Futures.

This interactive, multi-sensory experience is a first of its kind. For more on the design, see below...

We want to make sustainable so cool that it becomes the norm – a way of life for the vast majority of us.

CEO, Cool Planet Experience

"Cool Planet Experience gave a truly amazing insight and presentation on what we can do as individuals to make a difference and reduce our carbon footprint.”

DMW worked with CPE to define the centre's narrative framework, from which all else would emerge. This laid down the major beats of the hour-long experience that had to shock, educate, entertain and wow in equal measure.

In a very compact space (average room size 5x5m) we created seven different ways of delivering the centre's key messages.

An RFID wristband ties the whole experience together. Visitors calculate their carbon footprint at the start with a series of simple questions. At various points along the journey they tag on to see customised information: for instance, how their carbon footprint compares to the Irish and World averages.

Unique exhibits were designed for every room, using a wide range of fabrication techniques. For instance we designed, 3D printed and projection-mapped an entire 6 x 2.5m interactive "city of the future", which visitors clean up by playing a series of rapid-fire games on the adjoining touchscreens.

Ultimately the aim is to empower visitors as Agents of Change: pledging to make differences both large and small, and spreading the word that combating climate change is not just possible, but cool!
